Getting started
What is DunCrux?
DunCrux is a task manager that sorts your list for you. Tag tasks with keywords like @work or #home, and DunCrux ranks your tasks by how much each keyword matters to you. When your priorities shift, drag a task up and DunCrux learns from it. You spend less time arranging your list and more time getting through it.
How does automatic prioritization work?
Every keyword has an elevation score. Tasks are ranked by their keywords' elevation, so tasks tagged with your highest priorities rise to the top on their own. You never have to sort by hand.
How does DunCrux "learn" my priorities?
When you drag a task above another one, its keyword gains elevation and the other keyword loses some. Every task that shares that keyword moves with it. Keep dragging whenever your priorities change, and the order keeps up.
DunCrux only learns from how you reorder tasks. It doesn't use AI and doesn't track you in the background.
How do I tag a task?
Type @ to highlight a word inside the task sentence, or # to add a tag underneath it. Both count as the same keyword, so "Send weekly @work update" and "Plan launch #work" are both work tasks.
Is it hard to learn?
No. A short walkthrough on first launch covers the three ideas you need: tag, sort and drag. You can replay it any time from Settings → How DunCrux works.
Can I add due dates without opening a date picker?
Yes. Type dates naturally, like "Call dentist tomorrow at 3pm" or "Submit report by Friday", and DunCrux picks out the due date for you. You can also type /date to open the date picker, or /link to attach a website.
Features
Can I break big tasks into smaller steps?
Yes. Any task can have subtasks, and DunCrux tracks your progress as you check them off.
Does DunCrux support repeating tasks?
Yes. A task can repeat on a fixed schedule (daily, on chosen weekdays, monthly by date or by weekday position, and so on) or a set time after you complete it. You can choose to carry its subtasks over to each new copy.
Can I hide a task until later?
Yes. Snooze a task to hide it until the start of a day you choose. Snoozed tasks have their own list, so nothing gets lost.
Will DunCrux remind me about things?
Yes, if you turn on notifications. You can get:
- Due date reminders when a task is due.
- A Morning Briefing: a daily summary of your open tasks, with an optional 7-day workload trend that shows whether your backlog is shrinking or growing.
- Shared task alerts when someone changes a task you share.
What are Saved Sections?
Saved Sections are custom views of your list, such as "everything tagged #home". They appear as tabs you can swipe between on your home screen. Create one from a keyword search or in Settings. The free plan includes one saved section, and Pro makes them unlimited.
What insights does DunCrux give me?
DunCrux turns your task history into charts. They show whether your workload is getting lighter, how quickly you finish tasks, when you're most productive by hour and weekday, an activity heatmap, and how each keyword's priority has changed over time. The free plan includes basic insights, and Pro unlocks the full set.
Are there home screen widgets?
Yes, with Pro. There are four chart widgets: Workload trend, Work activity, Completed by hour and Completed by weekday. They're available on Android and on iOS 17 or later. Widgets show counts and dates only, never your task titles.
Can I share tasks with other people?
Yes. Connect with someone once using a QR code or invite code, then share any task with them. Shared tasks appear in the other person's DunCrux automatically, and you can each get notified when the other makes changes. Both people need a Pro + Sync subscription with sync turned on.
What's the Timeline?
The Timeline shows your upcoming and completed tasks in date order, including repeating tasks. You can search it.
What if I delete something by mistake?
Deleted tasks go to Trash. If you use sync, you can restore deleted tasks and recover overwritten edits through revision history for 30 days.
Is there a quick-add keyboard shortcut on Mac?
Yes. On Mac, press ⌘ ⌥ T from anywhere to open a quick-entry box and add a task without switching apps.
The climbing theme
What's with the mountains?
Every task you finish moves you up a real mountain or along a real trail. Choose an expedition, pass checkpoints with real facts about each route, and reach the summit to hang its poster in your Trophy Room. It's a small reward for getting things done. There's even optional haptic feedback, so you can feel each completion and summit.
Which expeditions are there?
- Seven Summits: climb the highest peak on every continent, from Puncak Jaya to Everest.
- Yosemite Climbs: six iconic walls, from Cathedral Peak to El Capitan.
- Long Trails: five long-distance hikes, from the High Sierra Trail and John Muir Trail to the Appalachian, Pacific Crest and Continental Divide trails.
You can switch expeditions at any time without losing progress, and show distances in feet and miles or meters and kilometers.
Pricing & plans
Is DunCrux free?
Yes. The free plan includes automatic sorting, learned priorities, tasks and subtasks, due dates, repeating tasks, snoozing, reminders, the climbing expeditions and basic insights. It doesn't expire and has no ads. Pro removes the limits when your list grows.
What do I get with Pro?
Pro removes the free plan's limits: unlimited keywords and saved sections, full analytics and insights, keyword aliases and home screen widgets. Pro + Sync adds cloud sync across your devices, the DunCrux web app and task sharing.

What's the difference between Lifetime Pro and Pro + Sync?
Lifetime Pro is a one-time purchase that unlocks every Pro feature on your device for good. Pro + Sync is a monthly or yearly subscription that adds everything in Pro, plus cloud sync across your devices, the DunCrux web app and task sharing.
If you buy Lifetime Pro and later subscribe to Sync, your Pro features stay unlocked even if the Sync subscription ends.
Is there a free trial?
There's no trial for paid plans. The free plan has no time limit, so you can use DunCrux as long as you like before deciding to upgrade.
What are keyword aliases?
Aliases let one keyword answer to several names. For example, #job and #office can both count as #work. That keeps your priorities consistent however you type. Aliases are a Pro feature.
Do I need an account to buy Pro?
No. You can buy and restore purchases without signing in. If you want to use Pro on your other devices, you can sign in with Google or Apple afterward, but that's optional.
How do I cancel or manage my subscription?
Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel them. Manage or cancel yours through the App Store or Google Play, or go to Settings → Plan & Billing → Manage subscription.
Deleting your DunCrux account doesn't cancel a store subscription, so cancel it with the store separately.
I got a new phone. How do I get my purchase back?
Go to Settings → Plan & Billing → Restore purchases, using the same Apple ID or Google account you bought with.
Accounts, sync & devices
Do I need to create an account?
No. DunCrux is local-first, so the full app works without an account. Sign in with Google or Apple only if you want cloud sync, the web app or task sharing.
What devices does DunCrux work on?
DunCrux is available for iPhone and iPad (iOS 15 or later) and Mac on the App Store, and for Android on Google Play. The DunCrux web app at duncrux.app works in any modern browser with a Pro + Sync subscription.
How does sync work?
With a Pro + Sync subscription, sign in and turn on Sync this device. Sync is off by default and you turn it on separately on each device, so you decide exactly which devices hold your tasks.
Edits are always saved on your device first. If you're offline, changes queue up and sync when you're back online.
Does DunCrux work offline?
Yes. Your tasks live on your device, so everything works without an internet connection. If you use sync, changes upload automatically when you reconnect.
Is there a web version?
Yes. Pro + Sync subscribers can use DunCrux in a browser at duncrux.app. It's the same app with the same priorities and progress. On a wide screen it shows task details beside your list. Sign in with the account you use in the app.
What happens if I sign out?
Signing out turns sync off on that device but keeps your tasks there. To remove them from the device, use Remove data from this device. That doesn't delete anything already synced to the cloud.
Support
How do I get help or send feedback?
Email [email protected], or tap Settings → Email support in the app. If you're enjoying DunCrux, a rating on the App Store or Google Play really helps.
